Description

Parliament House in Darwin was officially opened by the Governor-General, the Honourable Bill Hayden AC on 18 August 1994.
The building was designed to harmonise with the Top End's tropical climate and Australian materials feature throughout. The brown granite flooring was quarried at Mt Bundy, just south of Darwin.
As well as housing the Northern Territory Legislative Chamber, Parliament House is home to the Department of the Legislative Assembly, Ministerial, Opposition and Independent Members offices, Parliamentary Counsel, the Northern Territory Library, Speakers Corner cafe and a local artists craft shop.

Guided public tours are available on Fridays from 10.30am from April to October.
Tours for schools and community groups can be arranged through Parliamentary Education Services. Email: LA.Education@nt.gov.au
