Merrepen Arts

Description

The Merrepen Art Centre opened in 1986 and the artists quickly became famous for their paintings, etchings and textiles. There are also a number of weavers in the community. Merrepen Arts is a well-established art centre with around 120 member artists working in a variety of traditional and contemporary mediums. A number of the most established artists from the region are now recognized on a national level and international level. In 2020 some of the artists will exhibit at the prestigious Fowler Museum in Los Angeles. The beautiful paintings, prints and fabrics produced by the artists of Merrepen Arts are stylistically very different to what is generally expected of Aboriginal art. The art in the region is influenced by the local landscape, local colour, the light and the close proximity to the Daly River.
